Sammy Strent

Sammy Strent is an award winning composer, conductor, music director, and multi-instrumentalist from Bethesda, Maryland. Strent believes that music is the single greatest medium of human expression and that artists have a responsibility to use their creativity to enhance the world. Strent’s diverse compositional background has allowed him to work with a variety of high-level ensembles including Transient Canvas, the Worcester Chamber Music Society, and the Frost Chamber Singers. He writes music for choirs, films, tv series, podcasts, chamber ensembles, and also arranges for marching bands. In his time at the University of Miami, Strent studied music theory and composition, as well as piano and conducting. In the summer of 2023, Strent created “The Collegiate Choral Composition Community” - an online platform for collegiate composers to connect and share music. At the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Strent served as the Music Director for Phi Mu Alpha, the President of Phoenyx A Cappella, the Music Committee Chair for Tau Beta Sigma, and the Music Librarian for the Frost Band of the Hour. Outside of music, he enjoys playing ice hockey and spending time with his two dogs.
